Heat-absorbing glass reduces heat, glare, and a large percentage of ultraviolet rays. ... It often is used for comfort and reduction of air-conditioning loads where large areas of glass have a severe sun exposure.

Heat-absorbing and glare-reducing glass is recommended for exterior glazing in buildings where reduction of solar heat and glare is required. Plate glass is pale bluish green in color. Gray glass provides a reduction of glare and brightness without sacrificing color uniformity.
